Buttermilk Syrup


1 stick of butter
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk (a buttermilk substitute is 1/2 cup milk plus 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice)
1 teaspoon light Karo syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Make you buttermilk substitute first.  Then add the butter and sugar in a sauce pan. 
Mix and boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and add karo syrup, vanilla and baking soda. 

I usually half the recipe. 
Keep any leftovers in the fridge and then microwave briefly and mix before using the rest.
